Salvador Dali
“Shocking Radiance” by Schiaparelli
1943
While exiled in New York during the Second World War, Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali immortalised their collaboration with works created to illustrate the Shocking Radiance by Schiaparelli line of cosmetics.
Dali painted surrealist scenes, some influenced by Botticelli. They were printed on product labels, packaging and advertisements.
The first work, dated 1943, decorated bottles and the advertising campaign of the Shocking Radiance line of oils which was launched in the United States. Afterward, the line was expanded with other products that featured art created exclusively for Schiaparelli by Dali.
