These hands, painted by Picasso to simulate gloves, were photographed by Man Ray in 1935.
Schiaparelli inverted the process by applying false nails in red python to gloves in black calf suede with drawer pockets for her Winter 1936 Haute Couture collection. They were worn with the bureau-drawer suit of the same collection. She then expanded this idea with gloves with golden claws, rings on the fingers, and trompe-l'œil scars.
