Marcel Vertès
Illustrations for Schiaparelli perfumes
The collaboration between Marcel Vertès and Elsa Schiaparelli took numerous forms. It started in 1937, with the creation of advertising illustrations to promote the perfume Shocking.
Vertès then worked on most of the Schiaparelli fragrances: Sleeping, Eau de Santé, Salut, Zut, and Snuff, as well as on cosmetics.
He also created prints for Schiaparelli: Veuve Joyeuse (Joyful Widow), representing elegant women wearing big hats or muffs and walking poodles, or Les Vieux Beaux (The Old Beauties), sketching turn-of-the-century dandies.
Finally Vertès created more personal pieces for Elsa, becoming her friend over the years and travelling repeatedly with her, as she related in her memoirs.
